The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) and the Crude Oil Refinery-Owners Association of Nigeria (CORAN) have commenced a Joint Stakeholders Workshop aimed at strengthening collaboration and promoting greater integration across Nigeria’s upstream, midstream and downstream petroleum sectors.
The one-day workshop, holding on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel, Oniru, Victoria Island, Lagos, is themed “Harmonizing the Upstream, the Midstream and the Downstream Sectors for National Energy Security.” The engagement brings together key stakeholders to deliberate on critical issues affecting the petroleum value chain and explore practical approaches to achieving a more coordinated and sustainable energy sector.

Discussions at the workshop are focused on feedstock security and crude oil supply guarantees, regulatory alignment across midstream operations, and value-chain integration for sustainable energy growth. The engagement provides an opportunity for regulators, refinery owners and other industry stakeholders to exchange perspectives on improving coordination, strengthening domestic refining capacity and ensuring a more reliable supply of crude feedstock to refineries.
Speaking during the panel session, CORAN Chairman, Mr. Momoh Oyarekhua, responded to questions from participants and provided insights into issues affecting refinery operations and the broader petroleum industry. His contributions formed part of the stakeholders’ discussions on achieving greater synergy among the different segments of the petroleum value chain.
Also participating in the panel session was GCEO of HSI Energies & Refinery, Engr. Chikezie Nwosu, who answered questions and shared perspectives on the challenges and opportunities within Nigeria’s refining and energy sector. His intervention further enriched discussions on the need for stronger collaboration among stakeholders to support the development of a more integrated domestic petroleum industry.
The workshop underscores the importance of sustained dialogue between regulators and industry operators in addressing structural challenges within the petroleum value chain. The organisers are expected to leverage the outcomes of the engagement to strengthen stakeholder collaboration and advance measures that will contribute to Nigeria’s energy security and sustainable growth of the sector.
